Braine, Charles Joseph

Updated October 11, 2014

Charles Joseph Braine, merchant, was listed as a resident of Hong Kong in 1850. He was a partner in the mercantile firm, Dent & Co., in 1850. He was a Justice of the Peace (non-official) in 1850. He was a council of the Royal Asiatic Society, China Branch in 1850. Queen's Road was listed as his address in 1850.

There was a George Thomas Braine, merchant and member of the Canton Chamber of Commerce, among the 44 Justices of the Piece appointed by Hong Kong's first colonial governor, Henry Pottinger, on June 30, 1843. I wonder if the two Braines were related. G.T. Braine was said to be close to Scottish missionary Robert Morrison and his sons John Robert and Robert Jr.
